About Us
New Mexico State University (NMSU), working with the New Mexico Environment Department (NMED), hosts the New Mexico Produced Water Research Consortium (NMPWRC). The Consortium brings together universities, government agencies, national labs, and private companies. It focuses on research to help New Mexico use water from oil and gas operations safely and sustainably. Through this work, New Mexico is leading the country in developing new ways to treat and reuse produced water. New Mexico is a dry state so every drop of water counts and finding a way to clean and use water would benefit all.
Our Mission
To advance scientific research and technology development required to guide future statewide produced water reuse policy.
Our Goals
1. Fill knowledge gaps to help create rules for safely treating and reusing produced water.2. Speed up research and uses of technologies that safely and cheaply reuse produced water for farms, cities, industries, and other uses.
